French Cabin Mountain (Attempt)

French Cabin Mountain (Attempt to 4,600ft)

A few fresh feet of snow had fallen Saturday night in the mountains and we decided to try to hike up French Cabin Mountain (no, there’s not actually a cabin on top). It was a bit ambitious at 15 miles round trip, but it seemed possible with three people breaking trail. We drove almost to the trailhead near Easton on the unplowed dirt road, then started hiking around 9am. The snow got deeper and deeper until we were wallowing through literally waist-deep powder. At times it even got close to chest deep.

All that trail breaking slowed us down and we turned around shortly before sunset with the summit still a ways away.
