We woke up in the eightmile sno park outside winthrop Monday morning to 2 ft of fresh snow, much more than expected. So we aborted a bigger trip plan and decided to snowmobile around a bit and ski a peak. We rode up through the deep powder a few miles up the Chewuch River, then turned back and rode up to near Buck Lake. We were each getting stuck a few times, so left the snowmobiles and continued on skis. We skinned up the road then along the ridge to the summit of Buckaroo Mountain an hour later.
It was a fun ski back in the powder, then we turned the snowmobiles around and rode back to the sno park.
