Cave Ridge

Cave Ridge (920ft)

On the highpoint

Highpoint of Mammoth Cave National Park

Eric and Matthew Gilbertson, January 4, 2014

We were home in Berea, Kentucky for Christmas and New Year’s break, and decided to visit Mammoth Cave. We’d been to the cave before, but this time we added an additional objective of tagging the park highpoint.

At the visitors center

Most national parks tend to be mountainous, with the higpoint being an iconic peak that is difficult to ascend. Mammoth Cave is not one of those parks. The park is, of course, established because of the caves, not the mountains. So the highpoint is actually a very easy hill near the side of the road.

The whole family went to tour the cave and afterwards we made the short drive up Cave Ridge. We parked on the side of the road and walked a few minutes into the woods to the highest ground to snap our picture.
