Montana Dinosaur Digging

Montana Dinosaur Digging

Digging out the triceratops skull

July 9-16, 2023

Katie, Lily and I drove out to eastern Montana to help a UW paleontology group dig up dinosaur bones. We took two days to drive out to Jordan, Montana where we camped out at the property of some locals. Each morning we drove an hour north on dirt roads to the Thomas ranch where there were a few dig sites on BLM leased land. Katie and I spent the week digging out a triceratops skull.

The terrain looks like the Badlands, and I managed to do a lunch-break hike most days to tag some buttes and prospect (aka looking for fossils).

We made the drive back in one long 16-hour push.
