Lily hadn’t been on a hike in a while so we drove out to exit 42 and started up from the lower trailhead Saturday morning. The upper lot was overflowing so I’m glad we didn’t park there. We took the old trail up to Mason Lake and it was very slippery but Lily did fine. By mid afternoon we reached the summit and were treated to great views. This was Lily’s first time up Defiance and she didn’t require any assistance on the way up.
On the way down with the sun going lower and the trail very snowy Lily started shivering so I bundled her up in spare clothes and gave her a ride in the pack. Back at Mason Lake she had warmed back up and she made it back down to the trailhead under her own power.
