National Park Highpointing in the Southwest

Including 54 miles/11kft elev gain hiked in 18.5 hours in the Grand Canyon (rim to rim to rim)

We flew to Vegas for a road trip to climb some national park high points in the southwest. In addition to park high points, we also visited some especially cool locales such as a slot canyon in Capitol Reef, The Narrows in Zion, and two state high points to collect some souvenirs that we had missed on our first visit.

Itinerary:

October 14 – Eric flies to Vegas, drives to Great Basin national park
October 15 – Climb Wheeler Peak, drive toward Tonopah
October 16 – Climb Boundary Peak
October 17 – Drive to Death Valley, climb Telescope Peak
October 18 – Drive to Joshua Tree, climb Quail Mountain
October 19 – Drive to Saguaro National Park
October 20 – Climb Mica Mountain
October 21 – Drive to Mesa Verde, climb highpoint
October 22 – Drive to Petrified Forest National Park, climb Pilot Rock
October 23 – Climb Humphrey’s Peak, drive to Las Vegas
October 24 – Pick up Matthew, hike the Narrows in Zion
October 25 – Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim 55-mile hike
October 26 – Grand Canyon highpoint, Billings benchmark Capitol Reef highpoint
October 27 – Hike Burro Wash slot canyon in Capitol Reef
October 28 – Bryce Canyon, Zion highpoints, fly out of Las Vegas
October 29 – Monterrey, California
October 30 – Pinnacles National Park highpoint, North Chalone Peak
October 31 – Drive north from Monterrey
November 1 – Redwoods National Park highpoint
