Redwoods National Park Highpoint

Redwoods National Park Highpoint (3,262 ft)

November 1, 2015

I had just flown in to Monterray, California, to meet up with Katie for her Bat conference, and we then needed to drive back to Seattle. We decided to take the scenic Route 101 up the California coast so we could visit Redwoods National Park on the way.

The first night we made it to a county park north of Santa Rosa and slept in the back of the Forester. The next day we made it to Redwoods National Park and went on a few hikes to see the giant trees. Afterwards we drove east on Bald Hills Road to the easternmost corner of the park, and turned off at the side road near Coyote Peak. The road was gated and I wished we’d brought our bikes.

We hiked south along the road for about 1.5 miles, then cut steeply up a hillside to the east (point 3262 on the quad). After pushing through some bushes we reached the highpoint and found a little glass jar placed by John Mitcheler years ago. I signed us in, then we hiked back to the car and continued our drive up to Seattle.
