Hiking through the snowy forest

The weather was rainy and snowy everywhere Saturday so I decided to do a mostly-below-treeline peak a short drive from town. I left Seattle Saturday morning and parked at the Dirty Harry’s Peak trailhead at 9:30am. I started hiking in the rain and the precipitation didn’t let up all day. Eventually around 3,400ft the rain changed to snow. That’s about where I left the trail and started bushwhacking.

I bushwhacked up to the small tarn just west of the summit, then up to the west ridge. It was extremely windy with blowing snow and low visibility on the ridge, so I quickly climbed up to tag the summit then retreated. I hiked back down into the rain, and got back to the car by 3:30pm.
